back model Bass Violin
Top table is a six piece sectional
plate ranging in grain from medium at the
center joint to fine vertical grained
spruce at the outer flanks.
Back table is a two piece sectional
platetable of moderately slab cut pearwood.
Ribs are of matching character pearwood
to that of the back table.
Scroll is original, typical of Thir
workmanship, made of slab
cut pearwood with a moderately flamed
maple neck graft.
Varnish is a deep brownish amber color
Gears: Instrument was originally a
5-stringed design bass converted to 4 string design
string with individual Tyrolean knob
tuning gears.
This fine bass is a magnificent example
of Johann Georg Thir workmanship, with great projection, and depth of sound. Truly a fine
bass for high pedigree with could be utlized for both orchestral and solo capacity use.
