Voigt & Geiger Bass Violin 3/4 Size, Gamba-shaped, Round-back Model Made in Chicago, USA c. 1920

  • Top table is a two-piece plate of medium vertical grained spruce
  • Laminate back table is not original, but well matched to the character of the instrument
  • Ribs of slightly flamed maple
  • Scroll and neck are original of slightly flamed maple
  • Tyrolean wooden-knobbed tuning gears mounted on brass plates
  • Varnish is deep brownish amber
  • This bass has the excellent, strong projecting sound associated with Voigt & Geiger instruments with an ease of playing for solo and orchestral requirements
  • Fully restored to excellent condition
  • Overall body length: 43 3/8 in.
  • Width at the upper bout: 20 1/4 in.
  • Width at the center bout: 14 1/4 in.
  • Width at the lower bout: 25 3/4 in.
  • Mensure (string length): 41 in.

is in our opinion, the work of Giulio Degani, made in Venice, Italy, circa 1910, and is so labeled within.
The instrument is a full size violin. The top table is  a two-piece plate of fine vertical grain spruce.  The back table is a two-piece plate of moderately flamed maple slightly descending from the center joint. The ribs are of matching character to that of the back table.  The neck and scroll are originall of slightly figured maple. The color of the varnish is a deep reddish brown.  The instrument is in mint condition.
