Sanctus Seraphin shop Bass Violin Made in Venice, Italy c. 1740

  • Top table is a three-piece plate of wider out grained fir
  • Back table is a two-piece plate of slab-cut poplar
  • Ribs of matching poplar to that of the back table
  • Original scroll is the work of Georgio Seraphin and is of poplar with a moderately flamed maple neck graft
  • Individual brass tuning gears mounted on brass plates
  • Varnish is deep reddish brown
  • The body is the work of Francesco Goffriller, the teacher of Seraphin and maker within the Seraphin shop.
  • Excellent condition
  • Overall body length: 45 in.
  • Width at the upper bout: 20 7/8 in.
  • Width at the center bout: 15 1/2 in.
  • Width at the lower bout: 26 in.
