G.A. Pfretzschner Bass
It is our opinion that this 3/4 sized, gamba shaped bass was made by the G.A. Pfretzschner shop in Mittenwald Germany circa 1930 and is so labeled within. The top is a two piece plate of fine vertical grained spruce. The back table is a two piece plate of moderately flamed maple with flames descending from the center joints. The ribs are of matching character maple to that of the back table. The neck and scroll are original of moderately flamed maple with German plated tuning gears. The varnish is dark brown in color with red and amber hues. The instrument is in excellent condition and is setup for the modern school of Jazz style playing. The sound quality is incredible with fantastic warm sustain and projection in tone.
