Johann Georgius Helmer Violin

Two piece medium brown spruce top with slight reddish hues. Purfling on either side, maple ribs, figured one piece maple back, ebony fingerboard, ebony pegs, ebony tailpiece with fine tuner, and chin rest. Original maple neck and scroll.

Johann Georg Helmer was a pupil of Thomas Edlinger. He was one of the best violin maker in Prague in the 18th century. Modeling strongly reminiscent of the narrow-waisted and long Amati, but with slightly more arching suggestive of the Klotz type. Beethoven owned and played on one of Helmer's violins.
