19th Century Venetian Bass Violin
3/4 Size, Gamba Shaped, Flatback Model
Made in Venice, Italy c. 1860
- Top table is two-piece wide vertical grained spruce
- Back table is two-piece plain grained maple with slight figuring
- Ribs of matching maple to that of the back table
- Scroll and neck are original of plain grained maple
- The tuners are Italian Tyrolean individual knobbed gears
- The instrument is set up for the modern school of steel string playing with a tension-compensating, raised saddle and a Kolstein adjustable bridge
- Varnish is dark brownish amber
- This fine example of Venetian craftsmanship produces an impressive strong, dark, typically Italian sound which is excellent for orchestral or jazz requirements.
