Cremona Bass Violin Attributed to Giovanni Battista Ceruti Workmanship..Ex Gerald Fiore
made in Cremona, Italy, circa 1810
Top table is a 4-piece sectional table of medium vertical grained spruce
Back table is a two piece plate of slight figured maple with an ebony center strip
Ribs are of matching character maple to that of the back table
The scroll is original of plain grain maple with a broad flamed maple neck graft
Varnish is a deep reddish brown
Gears are decorative brass tuners mounted on brass plates.
This master Bass Violin has amazing depth, projection and sonority in all registered. A
truly “principal ” orchestral Bass Violin. This bass has the fine provenance of
being formerly owned by Gerald Fiore, former principal Bassist the Cincinatti Symphony Orchestra,
Cleveland Symphony Orchestra and Principal Bassist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
