English Boosey & Hawkes Grand Panormo Bass Violin
7/8 size, violin cornered, round back model
Made by Hawkes & Sons in London, England circa 1906
Top table is a two-piece sectional plate of fine vertical grained spruce.
Back table is a two-piece sectional plate of moderately flamed maple. Back had a broken H
inlay pattern below neckblock button.
The ribs are of matching character to that of the back table.
The scroll is original of flamed maple with a broad flamed maple neck graft
Gears are brass tuners with brass plates inscribed: Hawks & Son-London
Varnish is a deep brownish amber
The instrument is set up with a fingered extension
The tonal quality of the instrument is that it has a powerful projection in orchestral and
jazz playing. It is most impressive is all qualities.
