Modified 7/8 Size, Violin Cornered, Flatback Model
Made in Padua, Italy c. 1880
- Top table is a six-piece plate of spruce ranging from modified slab-cut at the center to fine vertical grained at the outer flanks
- Back table is a two-piece plate of slab-cut poplar
- Ribs of matching poplar to that of the back table
- Original scroll of poplar with a slightly figured maple neck graft
- Individual brass Baker tuning gears
- Varnish is deep reddish brown with amber hues
- This instrument is an excellent example of the maker’s craftsmanship; extremely fine projection and depth of tone; even in all registers; fine caliber orchestral bass
- Fully restored to excellent condition
- Overall body length: 44 3/4 in.
- Width at the upper bout: 20 1/4 in.
- Width at the center bout: 14 5/8 in.
- Width at the lower bout: 25 3/4 in.
- Mensure (string length): 42 in.
