Guiseppi Tarantino Bass Violin
Modified 7/8 Size, Violin Cornered, Flatback Model
Made in Naples, Italy c. 1890
- Top table is a four-piece plate of medium vertical grained spruce
- Back table is a two-piece plate of moderately figured poplar with traditional Tarantino decorative inlay below the neck block button
- Ribs of matching poplar to that of the back table
- Scroll and neck are original of slightly figured poplar and were made by Raphael Tarantino (Guiseppi’s son)
- Individual brass Baker-style tuning gears
- Varnish is deep reddish amber
- This instrument is one of the nicest examples of Guiseppi Tarantino’s craftsmanship; extremely strong projection; great depth of tone; even in all registers; fine caliber orchestral or solo bass
- Fully restored to excellent condition
- Overall body length: 43 3/4 in.
- Width at the upper bout: 19 1/2 in.
- Width at the center bout: 15 1/8 in.
- Width at the lower bout: 25 1/8 in.
- Mensure (string length): 42 in.
