Made in Manchester, England c. 1855
- Top table is a two-piece plate of medium grained English pine
- Back table is a two-piece plate of broad flamed English maple
- Ribs of matching English maple to that of the back table
- Original scroll of of slight figured maple with a moderately flamed maple neck graft
- Brass tuners mounted on decorative brass plates
- Varnish is deep reddish brown with amber hues
- Instrument is branded below the neck block button. This is truly one of the finest examples of Cole workmanship. A masterful bass of the highest quality.

- Width at the center bout: 15 in.
- Width at the lower bout: 27 in.
