Marino Tarrantino Bass Violin
Full-cut 3/4 Size, Violin Cornered, Round Back
Made in Naples, Italy c. 1923
- Bears the maker’s label within “Tarrantino Marino fir Guiseppi, Fecit Napolie, Italia 1923.”
- Top table is a two-piece plate of medium vertical grained spruce
- Back table is a two-piece plate of poplar ranging from grained to slab-cut on the outer flanks to figured at the center joint with traditional Tarrantino decorative purfling below the neck block button
- Ribs of matching poplar to that of the back table
- Scroll and neck are original of slightly figured maple
- Individual Italian style brass tuning gears
- Varnish is deep reddish-brown
- This bass is a wonderful example of Tarrantino workmanship. Wonderful orchestra and pizzicato quality. Great depth with strong, even projection in all registers.
