B- 3533 Mirecourt Bass With Attributes to Jacquet Workmanship made circa 1880
The instrument is a full cut 3/4 Gamba Shaped Flatback Model
Top is a 2-piece plate of medium vertical grained spruce
Back is a 2-piece plate of moderately flamed maple
Ribs are of matching character to that of the back table
Neck and scrolls are original of plain grained maple
It is in our opinion that this instrument was originally a 3 string bass and currently has 3 original brass Mirecourt tuning gears with a 4th brass tuning gear added to the scroll
Varnish is a deep reddish brown with amber hues
Instrument is in excellent condition and has very impressive orchestral and jazz qualities with evenness in all registers
