  • Back table is a two-piece plate of slab-cut pearwood
  • Ribs of matching pearwood to that of the back table
  • Original scroll of pearwood with a plain grained maple neck graft
  • Montavani style individual brass tuners
  • Varnish is deep reddish brown
  • This unusual design bass is truly one of a kind; large, robust, deep sound with exceptional projection, point and definition; excellent solo and orchestral characteristics.
  • Fully restored to excellent condition by Samuel Kolstein & Son, Ltd.
  • Overall body length: 39 7/8 in.
  • Width at the upper bout: 18 3/8 in.
  • Width at the center bout: 16 1/2 in.
  • Width at the lower bout: 24 1/2 in.
  • Mensure (string length): 39 7/8 in.

is in our opinion, the work of Giulio Degani, made in Venice, Italy, circa 1910, and is so labeled within.
The instrument is a full size violin. The top table is  a two-piece plate of fine vertical grain spruce.  The back table is a two-piece plate of moderately flamed maple slightly descending from the center joint. The ribs are of matching character to that of the back table.  The neck and scroll are originall of slightly figured maple. The color of the varnish is a deep reddish brown.  The instrument is in mint condition.
