Carlo Antonio Testore Bass Violin 3/4 Size, Pear-shaped, Roundback Made in Milan, Italy c. 1735

    • Top table is a three-piece plate combination with vertical and slab on the outer edges
    • Back table is a two-piece plate of slab-cut pearwood
    • Ribs of matching pearwood to that of the back table
    • Original scroll of plain grained pearwood with a slightly figured maple neck graft
    • Individual brass tuning gears
    • Varnish is brownish amber
    • This bass was made as a three string bass and in time was converted to a 4 string instrument. This fine bass is from the collection of the late pedagog David Walter
