  • Top table is a five-piece plate of vertical grained spruce, ranging from wide at the outer flanks to fine at the center joint
  • Back table is a two-piece plate of highly flamed maple with flames slightly descending from the center joint
  • Ribs of matching maple to that of the back table
  • Original scroll of plainer grained maple with a highly flamed maple neck graft
  • Individual brass inlaid tuners
  • Varnish is brownish amber with reddish hues
  • The instrument bears the maker's label within "Raffaele & Antonio Gagliano, Naples 1846"
  • A most historically significant example of R & A Gagliano workmanship in impeccable condition with most remarkable tonal qualities. The masterful instrument is a first class principal bass of fine pedigree, great sonority, depth of sound and incredible projection. Truly one of the great basses.
