The Bass Violin, is the work of John Frederick Lott, made in London, England circa 1820

The instrument is a seven‑eight size, violin cornered, flat back model Bass Violin.

The top table is a six piece plate of spruce ranging in grain from fine to medium.

The back table is a two‑piece plate of slightly flamed maple slightly ascending at the center joint.

The ribs are of matching character to the back table.

The scroll is original of plain grain maple with a moderately flamed maple neck graft. The gears are highly unusual oversized brass tuning gears mounted on brass plates.

The color of the varnish is a light brownish amber.
