Kowalski stands above other makers today due to his utilization of highly refined techniques of decorative intarsia and immaculately detailed carving, woodwork that is rarely seen on contemporary instruments. He delights in working with materials outside the usual maple and spruce combination, but instead often uses sycamore tonewood for its depth of grain and excellent tonal qualities.
