Attributed Gagliano School Bass Violin,
with strong influence of the Raffael and Antonio Gagliano shop. Made in Naples Italy, circa
1850
Modified 7/8th size, gamba shaped,
flatback model Bass Violin
Top table is a two piece plate of
medium to wide grained semi-slab cut fir with lower sectional wings of similar character top
wood
Back table is a two piece sectional
plate of modified slab cut maple with low bout sectional wings originally added to the back
table.
Ribs are of matching character modified
slab cut maple to that of the back table.
Neck & Scroll:are not original
and are of a latter period.
Gears are Tyrolean gears with pernambuco
knobs which are inlaid with mother
of pearl dots.
Varnish: is a brownish amber color
with great depth and transparency
Wonderful Principal Orchestral Bass,
with even strong projection. A very impressive Bass in all aspects.
